Today in class we went over the answers to the review sheet and I have posted the answers below. Finals start tomorrow, Wednesday, and will continue on Thursday.

 

June 2

Below is the final review sheet for the math final that each student received in class today. We will continue working on the review on Tuesday and I will go over each answer so the students will study the correct information. I will post the answers tomorrow.

May 27

Since many students were gone today for the band field trip, the students I had received an extra day to work on their trip projects. We will begin presenting those projects tomorrow and also on Thursday. The summer fun field trip is on Friday and we will begin reviewing for the math final on Monday of next week. 

May 21

The STAAR results came in today and each student received a piece of paper with their reading and math results on them. We are continuing working on their trip project for the rest of the week and will be presenting what they created next week.

May 19

Today the students took the universal screener, which is a test that they took at the beginning of the year, the middle of the year, and now at the end of the year. It helps us track each student's progress. Tomorrow we will be continuing the trip investigation project and will work on that all week. We will start presentations on Tuesday, after the holiday.

May 13

Today the students were introduced to their final math project. Below is the rubric that each student received. The project is for them to plan a trip for 2 for a total of $2000. They may work in partners and have to calculate for their airfare, lodging, meals and any other expenses. We will be spending several days in the computer lab.

May 12

Today in class we continuing using the TI-84 calculators and giving the students a chance to get acquainted with them. We will finish the order of operations worksheet tomorrow and will also begin working on your final math project. I will post the directions and rubrics tomorrow.

May 5

The students began learning about two-step equations today. Below is a video that Coach Louder made that has examples of how to solve two-step equations. The students have 12 problems for homework to work on.

 

April 28

The homework tonight is worksheet 2-5, which deals with addition equations. Below is a copy of the worksheet and the students are to do all 20 problems. Each class had about 15-25 minutes in class to work on it so some students may be finished.

 

April 23

Students finished STAAR testing today and for the rest of the week, we will be reviewing decimals, fractions, and integers by playing bingo. We will begin the next unit on Monday.

April 21

The students will be taking the math STAAR test tomorrow so they do not have homework tonight. We discussed the different strategies that they can use on the test tomorrow to help them. Below is the list we discussed.

April 14

We reviewed the parts of a circle during class and their homework tonight is 4 questions called Circle Relationships. These 4 questions will be due tomorrow. 

The math STAAR test is a week from tomorrow, on April 22.

April 11

The students took a quiz over the STAAR material we have covered the last 2 weeks and next week we will be continuing the review for the upcoming STAAR test, which is on April 22.

April 8

The homework tonight is the back of the worksheet called Pizza Anyone? We completed the front side in class and for homework the students are to finish the back side, about Alex training for a 5 mile race. They have to explain in words how to solve the problem, and then show how to solve the problem. I suggested in class that they change all the numbers to decimals and then they will be able to add the numbers up.

April 7

We began reviewing for the STAAR test today so the homework tonight is a review of fractions and decimals. We did the front side of the worksheet, called lesson 2, and the students are to do the back side for homework. They will have to convert all the numbers to either fractions or decimals in order to compare them and put them in order. Like I told the students, we have 10 school days until the real STAAR test.

I have been pulling some students during tutorials for extra math help and we are using a math program that is online and free for students to use. Any student is welcome to work on the math website but they will have to get their logins from me and then they can work on it at home.

Due to a death in my family, I will be out all week and I will return to school on Monday, April 7.

Probability-March 24

We began learning about probability today. Below is a picture of the graphic that students copied down that will help them on their homework. Their homework is worksheet 12-1 and they are to do all 12 problems. Also, I posted a picture of how to convert a fraction, decimal and percent.

While watching my math videos, you have probably heard my 2 dogs walking around and making noise so I decided to post their picture on here too. Bella is the Chihuahua and Alex is the Beagle.

March 19

The homework tonight is for the students to complete the fast food survey. Each class had a different number of people to ask and then complete the bar graph on the backside along with the questions. It will be due tomorrow. 

March 18

Today the students had class time to work on their coordinate grid projects, and any missing work. Their projects are due tomorrow, Wednesday, and it will be a major test grade. Their project is the only homework for tonight, unless they have some missing work to work on. Grades will go out next week for progress reports so make sure everything is turned in!

March 17

Below is a video from Khan Academy reviewing how to make a stem and leaf plot, which we learned in class today. The homework is worksheet 6-9.

March 6

Tonight's homework is worksheet 6-3 and 6-4 and it is front and back. The students are to complete both sides for tomorrow. There are 9 questions and then they have to draw a bar graph on the back.

Below is a sample coordinate grid project that I created. Each student will need to turn in a drawing on grid paper, making sure each item on their checklist is labeled. Also, they will turn in a list of the ordered pairs that I can use to recreate their drawings. The drawing also needs to be colored once they finish.

 

March 5

Today the students received the instructions for their coordinate plane project. Below is a copy of the instructions and this project will be due on March 19th, the Wednesday after Spring Break. Each student also receive 2 pieces of grid paper, one to practice on and the other one for their final copy. On the due date, the students will turn in their colored picture along with instructions on where each point on their grid is. I will post the sample designs I drew later this week.

March 3

The homework tonight is worksheet 5-9, dividing fractions. They are to do problems 1-16. Below is a video of 2 sample problems.

The homework tonight is worksheet 11-10, dealing with graphing functions. The students are to do problems 1-13 for tomorrow.

February 24

In class today we discussed the 4 quadrants on a coordinate grid and completed a worksheet in class for a daily grade. There is no homework tonight and we will be benchmark testing the next 2 days and will resume regular class on Thursday.

The homework tonight is worksheet 9-4, which deals with converting metric units. The students are to do problems 1-14 for tomorrow.

Today in class the students learned how to multiply mixed numbers. Their homework tonight is worksheet 5-8, and they are to do questions 1-15 for tomorrow. Below is an example video of how to multiply mixed numbers.

The students worked on test corrections in class today so there is no homework tonight. Once I grade the test corrections, some students averages will change due to their test corrections. The test they took was an open note test, but some students still did poorly on it.

Also, I have tutoring this Friday morning at 7:30 if any student needs help on anything.

February 10

The homework tonight is worksheet 10-9, which is about surface area. Many students finished during class.

Also, I am offering morning tutoring every Monday, Tuesday and Friday from 7:30-7:50. Any student is allowed to come in for extra help on homework or any extra help on other math topics. The STAAR test is coming up soon and everyone is welcome to come in.

February 5

Today we discussed three dimensional figures and took notes and glued example pictures into their notebooks. Tomorrow and Friday the students will be taking a benchmark test. They will test in the morning and then have rotations in the afternoon. Math will be on Thursday and Reading will be on Friday. We will continue normal class on Monday.

Today the students worked on a test review over unit 7. Below is a copy of the review and well as the answers each worked out. The test will be on Tuesday.

In class today, the students learned how to find the area of a circle. The homework is worksheet 10-5 and they are to do the odd problems only. Below are 2 examples of how to solve the areas.

The homework tonight is worksheet 10-2, which deals with the area of triangles and trapezoids. The students are to do all of the problems on the worksheet. Below are videos of me working out 2 examples of each type.

January 21

In class today we learned how to find the area of rectangles and parallelograms. The homework tonight is worksheet 10-1 and students are to do all the problems.

Students learned how to calculate circumference of a circle in class today. Below are videos on myself working out how to find circumference of a circle when you have a diameter or a radius.

January 14

In class today the students worked on converting time and temperature. Most students knew how to convert time but temperature was a little bit harder. Below I have posted videos of myself working 2 problems from class for help on tonight's homework. The homework tonight is worksheet 9-5 and they are to do only the even problems.

January 13

The next 2 weeks in math the students will be learning the different types of measurement. Today we discussed the metric system and measured items around the classroom, so they will not have homework tonight. Tomorrow we will be going over time and temperature, and then move on to perimeter and area in the next few days. 

January 7

On the first day back, the students learned about scientific notation. Their homework is page 19 from their workbook and they are to do problem 1-12 and the other problems are extra credit if the students want to do them. It will be due tomorrow, but I will not be at school so there will be no homework tomorrow night.
